SLV Food Day Celebration - October 24th, 2015

Join us at the Valley Roots Food Hub in Mosca on Saturday October 24th from 9am-11am. There will be a Delicious Local Foods Breakfast with a "Meet Your Meat" Sustainable Meat Production Panel Discussion featuring Sherry Haugen, Trudi Kretsinger, and Kyle Grote. What a powerhouse! SLV Local Foods Coalition Farm & Food Tour - September 20th, 2015

This Car-Pooling/Caravan Tour Event by the LFC will meet at the Rio Grande Healthy Living Park at 9am on Sunday. This exciting Farm and Food Tour is open to the first 30 Registrants and includes an eventful day in the Valley! Scheduled visits include farms, food hub, workshop, and the sand dunes pool & greenhouse. Grange Future Talks by Severine Fleming - September 14th, 2015

Come join us for a gathering day with Severine Von Tscharner, the founder of the Greenhorns and Grange Future. Severine's visit will entail discussions about issues of young farmers, land access, the Grange Future and much more! Washington / Alamosa - SBA Press Release - August 6th, 2015

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) today announced the 80 winners of the second annual Growth Accelerator Fund Competition. The San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition based in Alamosa Colorado is among the winners. The recipients represent 39 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The SBA discussed the Growth Accelerator program and other SBA programs at the White House Demo Day on Tuesday, August 4, 2015.

The San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition (LFC) entered the national contest based on its work to foster an equitable local food system that restores the health of the people, community, economy and ecosystem. Two important business incubator projects were featured. The Valley Roots Food Hub local foods aggregation and distribution enterprise complete with a warehouse and large-scale commercial kitchen for value-added production in Mosca; And the 38-acres of amazing soil at the bend of the Rio that comprises the Rio Grande Healthy Living Park - recently obtained to nurture beginning farmers and to attract visitors for a back-to-the-land experience. VEGI Garden Spring Kick-off Party - May 5th, 2015

Share the Work, Share the Harvest! Come join us for a fun time at Boyd Garden on Saturday from 4:30-7:30pm. The VEGI Spring Kick-off event will feature community participation work time in the garden, Garden Tours, and fun kids activities. There will be a potluck meal and conversation. The Rio Grande Healthy Living Park and the Trust for Public Land will be holding a community meeting at Adams State University to discuss and present program elements for the park. Greenhouse Tour with Friend Darr - April 25th, 2015

Join us at Friend Darr's Sea of S.A.G.E. homestead in Alamosa on Saturday for an informative Greenhouse Tour. Discussions and demonstration topics will cover greenhouse growing, solar greenhousing, and greenhouse design & construction. This is a great opportunity to learn how to construct a Greenhouse! La Puente's Hunger Education Week - April 12-17th, 2015

La Puente, our amazing Alamosa nonprofit partner, is kicking off their annual Hunger Education Week with CROP WALK on Sunday April 7th. Crop Walk is a community event to raise awareness of global hunger issues. We walk in solidarity with those around the world who must walk several miles a day to find food and water. CROP Walk is also a fundraiser for the Food Bank Network of the San Luis Valley and a global organization that devotes their time to combating world poverty and hunger. Please join the Local Foods Coalition walk team to show our support of this great cause. SLV Young Farmer and Rancher Gathering - February 11th, 2015

Monte Vista Co-op will be hosting a gathering for Farmers and Ranchers to discuss the needs of next generation growers in the Valley. This networking event will be an opportunity to voice your thoughts and learn about emerging young farmer chapters from the National Young Farmer Coalition. Sponsored chapter Rocky Mountain Farmers Bureau will be present to promote the growth of agriculture through farmer advocacy, collaboration, and education. Striving for a Resilient Future! Join us for a day of informative talks at Adams State University on Soil Health.
